Can AI help me?

AI can provide answers… Personal counselling goes a step further.

ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and other AI systems can be  excellent information sources. Personal counselling however adds individual understanding, human interaction and the continuity needed to turn insight into change.

I do not see this as being in conflict with personal counselling. AI can be a valuable tool – but it does not replace a personal conversation between two people.

Counselling is not simply about receiving an answer to a question. It is about understanding your individual situation, recognising underlying patterns and discovering what actually works for you.

A conversation contains more information than words alone.

In a face-to-face conversation, I pay attention not only to what you tell me. The nuances of how you describe something can be equally important – emotions, uncertainty, contradictions, hesitation or recurring patterns in the way you think and behave.

What personal counselling adds

Your individual situation

There is rarely a standard solution to a personal problem. Together, we look at your circumstances, experiences, relationships, expectations and the solutions you may already have tried.

A real person to talk to

Sometimes we do not need more information. We need someone who listens carefully, asks the right questions and looks at the situation from an independent perspective.

Constructive challenge

Good counselling does not mean simply agreeing with you. Sometimes it is useful to question assumptions, interpretations or established patterns of thinking and to explore alternative perspectives.

Continuity

Counselling is a process. Over a series of conversations, we can follow developments, discuss changes and adapt strategies as your situation evolves.

Commitment

There is often a considerable gap between having a good idea and actually making a change. Regular conversations can help turn intentions into practical steps and keep those changes moving forward.

AI or personal counselling?

Why should it have to be one or the other?

You are welcome to use AI, books and other sources of information for self-reflection. You can even bring ideas, questions or suggestions generated by AI into our sessions.

Together, we can then explore:

Does this really apply to you?

What might have been overlooked?

Which approach is realistic in your particular circumstances?

And most importantly: How can an insight be translated into meaningful change in your everyday life?

Information can provide direction. Personal counselling helps you develop your own way forward.
