Jos Theunis
Certified Psychological Counsellor
About me
I am Jos Theunis, certified Psychological Counsellor, based in Thalwil (Switzerland).
I offer personal counselling for people who are looking for greater clarity, emotional balance, or practical support in dealing with difficult situations and periods of change.
My approach
My counselling is structured, individual and evidence-based, with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) forming an important part of my approach.
Our thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviour are closely connected. By examining these patterns together, we can gain a clearer understanding of what may be contributing to a particular difficulty and identify realistic ways of responding differently.
I do not believe in standard solutions. What is helpful for one person may not be appropriate for another. My role is therefore to understand your individual situation, listen carefully, ask relevant questions and work with you towards solutions that are both meaningful and practical.
Experience and background
My professional background is somewhat broader than the traditional route into counselling. I originally worked as a science teacher and later moved into information technology.
Alongside my professional career, I developed a strong interest in psychology, psychotherapy and counselling and completed training at several specialist institutes.
This combination of analytical thinking, professional experience and counselling training continues to influence the way I work today.
Qualifications & Practice
Certified Psychological Counsellor – Paracelsus Institute (Karlsruhe / Germany)
Since January 2021, I have been running my own counselling practice in Thalwil, Canton Zurich (Switzerland).
An international perspective
I have lived and worked in different countries, including the United Kingdom, and have been based in Switzerland since 1996.
I provide counselling in both English and German and regularly work with people from international and expatriate backgrounds.
Thalwil has been my home for many years — and its postcode, 8800, is also the origin of the name coach8800.
What you can expect
Counselling should provide a confidential setting in which you can speak openly, examine your situation without judgement and consider perspectives that may be difficult to see on your own.
I will not tell you how you should live your life. Instead, we will look together at what is happening, what may be keeping you stuck, what could realistically change, and which steps may be useful for you.
Considering counselling?
You do not need to have everything clearly defined before making contact.
Sometimes the first conversation is simply an opportunity to explain what is happening and to find out whether working together feels appropriate.
If you would like to explore whether counselling could be helpful for you, you are welcome to arrange an initial appointment.
